Call for Ideas – Competition for Cooperative Housing in Stuttgart-Rot

Brief description: In Stuttgart-Rot, between 250 to 280 residential units are to be newly built on an area of around two hectares traditionally inhabited by cooperatives. The new neighborhood »Am Rotweg« is being developed jointly by the building cooperatives Neues Heim – Die Baugenossenschaft eG and Baugenossenschaft Zuffenhausen eG. We are looking for radically future-oriented typologies that meet the needs of people in different phases of their life and that promote a sense of community and allow for people to gather. The spaces inside and outside of the buildings should encourage diversity and an exchange of ideas.
Competition process: The competition is organised as a one-stage, non-open urban planning competition with an upstream selection process. A total of 15 participants are admitted to the competition. The competition organiser selects 4 participants in advance. Another 11 participants qualify based on their convincing ideas. The process is anonymous.
The language of the proceedings is German. Applications to participate can be submitted in German and English.
Deadline idea submission/sketch qualification: 14 September 2020, 4 pm (CET). The submission is only digital.
Selection of sketch qualifications: 21 September 2020, 9 am
Award for sketch qualification: The 11 selected participants receive a remuneration of 1.800 € (excluding VAT).
Estimated processing period for urban planning competition: 13 weeks, beginning of the 4th quarter of 2020
Participants: Urban planners and architects, also in combination with landscape architects and mobility experts.
Award for urban planning competition: 1st prize EUR 60,000, 2nd prize EUR 37,500, 3rd prize EUR 22,500, Distinctions EUR 30,000. Prices plus VAT.
