Prof. Folke Köbberling
The artist Folke Köbberling develops intervention models for urban spaces. She uses existing structures and thus questions the usual way of dealing with urban architecture in a subtle, often humorous way.
Folke Köbberling, born in 1969, lives in Berlin and has been a professor of artistic design at the Institut für Architekturbezogene Kunst (IAK) at the TU Braunschweig since 2016. She has participated in numerous national and international solo and group exhibitions, many of them in collaboration with the artist and architect Martin Kaltwasser. Among them exhibitions at the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin, ZKM Karlsruhe, Lentos Museum, Ruhrtriennale 2012, Kunstverein Kassel, Museo El Eco in Mexico City and many more.
Köbberling studied fine arts with a diploma in Kassel (1990 to 1995) and at the Emily Carr Institute in Vancouver. She has taught at many universities around the world, including the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, the Metropolitan University in London, the Universität der Künste in Berlin, the University of Applied Arts Vienna and Wayne State University, Michigan. Folke Köbberling was a member of the board of trustees of the Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik, Berlin and the expert commission for public art, Lower Austria.
Her current publication FULL STOP documents the examination with mobility and the changes in our environment caused by the automobile. The projects shown in it make it clear that artists, “freed from constraints and pragmatic compromises, can see and name problems.” (Maren Harnack)
