Urban planning competition: Productive urban neighbourhood Winnenden
As part of an international urban planning competition, Winnenden municipal authorities and the International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart (IBA’27) are looking for suggestions for a mixed-use neighbourhood of the future. A site approximately 5.2 hectares in size located between Winnenden train station and the B14 national road is to become home to a neighbourhood that demonstrates the benefits of living and working in a high-density development with hybrid buildings. As an IBA’27 Project, the new urban neighbourhood could become a model for how to use closely integrated functions to alleviate the scarcity of housing and of manufacturing spaces in the Stuttgart Region in a space-saving and sustainable manner.
The planned neighbourhood is set to combine the space needed by regional companies with innovative housing models and traffic-calmed public spaces that offer a high quality of stay. Adapted architectural forms can protect against noise from traffic and industry. Community facilities, cafés and restaurants and other services are to be used as shared spaces by residents and employees. There is also an ambitious sustainability concept that closes circular systems. The objective is to make the new urban neighbourhood a high-profile example of how intelligent and courageous planning creates added value for the economy, for people and the environment.
Competition process: The competition will be held as an open, single-phase planning competition. The procedure will be carried out anonymously. The countries permitted to take part include the countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the countries that have signed up to the WTO Agree- ment on Government Procurement (GPA). The competition will be conducted through German and English.

Presentation of the winners: 26.02.21
Awards: 1st prize 28.000 €, 2nd prize 17.500 €, 3rd prize 10.500 €, two distinctions 7.000 € each. (All prizes plus VAT).
